The North-German City of Vechta recently decided to upgrade its street lighting from the older less energy efficient Mercury Vapour lamps to a state of the art Philips CosmoPolis system. The result has been energy savings of 50% per lamp post and cost savings of 1256 euros per km, per year. These energy savings also mean an indirect CO2 reduction of about 100 kg CO2 per light point per year.

Saks Fifth Avenue has been lit up by Philips with a giant LED display of dancing snowflakes. Philips' Xenon headlight bulbs help to keep drivers fresh and alert. Simulating the human eye in darkness and poor lighting conditions, helps to reduce driver fatigue. Providing 200% more light, the bulbs make a big difference to a drivers ability to recognize potential obstacles in the distance and on the side of the road and can improve reaction times by up to 1 second. Xenon light also consumes over 50% less energy and thus appeals to an environmentally conscious driver and has a 600% longer lifetime.
